Description

To carry out mechanical maintenance tasks in a safe manner to appropriate standards. To assist the Mechanical Supervisor in the execution of their daily tasks and step up to provide cover for aspects of the Mechanical Supervisor’s role, where appropriate.

Role Specific Responsibilities
  • Ensure all work is carried out in a safe manner and without harm to others or the environment, in line with company policies.
  • Execute mechanical maintenance tasks as required, including both planned and emergent work.
  • Tasks will include but are not limited to: installation of pipework and fittings, installation of screwed and bolted joints, installation and alignment of rotating machinery (high‑value mechanical seals, pumps, agitators, etc.), condition‑based monitoring, pump and valve overhauls/repairs.
  • Identify any parts required, collate the relevant details and, where appropriate, contact the supplier for a quotation.
  • Assist in the development of Predictive and Preventative Maintenance Routines (PMR) and write appropriate routines so that others can carry out the task.
  • Contribute to Root Cause Analysis of failures both formally and more generally through discussion with others and the Maintenance Supervisor in order to improve the reliability of equipment.
  • Recommend and monitor workshop spares holding, ensuring any parts used are replenished.
  • Record all work in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) currently MP2.
  • Assist where required in the training of others on site to increase the skills and knowledge of the workforce and to better execute their roles.
  • Provide cover for the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor during absences and at other times as required.
  • Undertake other duties as may be required.

Education & Qualifications
  • Maths, English, IT Literate.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience
  • Served a recognised apprenticeship scheme or equivalent training.
  • Experience and knowledge of rotating equipment (centrifugal pumps, mechanical seals, etc.).
  • Experience and knowledge of static equipment (flanges, pipework, valves, PVVs, RVs, flame arresters, etc.).
  • Knowledge of predictive techniques.
  • Experience in a similar environment, ideally a Top Tier COMAH site.
  • Basic knowledge of relevant legislation (LOLER, PUWER, PSSR, HASAWA, COSHH, DSEAR).
