Senior Transport Planner – Worksop - c.£40,000

We are working with an award-winning transport and logistics business to recruit an experienced Senior Transport Planner. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established operation specialising in construction logistics, where you'll play a key role in planning a busy fleet while leading and supporting a team of planners.
Reporting into the Flatbed Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for managing the day-to-day planning of approximately 20-30 Class 1 flatbed vehicles, ensuring maximum fleet utilisation, excellent customer service and efficient operational performance across the network. This is a role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem solving and can confidently make decisions under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and optimise a dedicated fleet of approximately 20-30 Class 1 flatbed vehicles
Maximise vehicle utilisation while maintaining exceptional customer service
Build and maintain strong working relationships with drivers
Coordinate vehicle inspections, maintenance schedules and driver holidays
Work closely with Operations and Commercial teams to ensure customer requirements are met
Support the wider planning function to ensure workloads are effectively managed
Coach and support members of the planning team to drive operational performance
Monitor and improve key transport KPIs
Ensure jobs are completed accurately and handed over for invoicing
React quickly to changing operational demands and resolve issues efficiently

About You:

We are looking for an experienced Transport Planner who is confident managing a busy fleet and enjoys working in a fast-moving logistics environment.
You'll ideally have
- Previous experience within a Transport Planner or Senior Transport Planner position
Experience planning a fleet of 20+ HGV Class 1 vehicles
Strong knowledge of transport planning within a distribution or logistics operation
Excellent communication skills with the confidence to build strong relationships with drivers and internal stakeholders
The ability to prioritise workloads and make effective decisions under pressure
A proactive and resilient approach with strong organisational skills
CPC qualification or a willingness to work towards one Desirable:

Experience planning flatbed vehicles

Experience with in construction logistics or heavy haulage
Previous experience coaching or mentoring other planners
