Position Overview

The Assistant Superintendent is a key member of the district’s leadership team and supports the Superintendent in developing and implementing instructional programs that enhance student learning and ensure equitable outcomes across all schools. This role provides leadership in curriculum, assessment, teaching practices, professional development, and school improvement. The Assistant Superintendent also oversees instructional budgets and grants, ensuring effective resource use and compliance with all funding requirements.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $141,000

Essential Functions
  • Lead the continuous development and alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment across all grade levels in accordance with District goals and objectives, as well as with applicable laws.
  • Direct the curriculum development and revision process in the district in accordance with the District's curriculum development plan/cycle and state and national standards.
  • Support principals and instructional staff to strengthen evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Oversee implementation of Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), literacy initiatives, and intervention programs.
  • Plan, coordinate and direct the professional development program and activities in the District, as well as continuing education for certified staff, promoting a focus on student learning and professional growth.
  • Mentor and coach principals, instructional coaches, and teacher leaders.
  • Direct the selection and adoption of instructional materials, textbooks, media and software materials for the District.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage instructional budgets, including curriculum adoption budgets and professional development funds.
  • Oversee federal, state, and competitive grants related to instructional programs (e.g., Title I, Title II, 21st Century, IDEA).
  • Ensure compliance with all fiscal and reporting requirements, including monitoring expenditures and aligning budgets to improvement goals.
  • Work collaboratively with the Superintendent and Chief Operation Officer to forecast instructional needs and allocate resources equitably.
  • Monitor collaborative structures such as PLCs that promote continuous improvement.
  • Interpret, evaluate and analyze student assessment and program evaluation results for the purpose of improving instruction and student achievement in the District.
  • Facilitate school improvement planning and support schools in meeting district and state accountability expectations.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of effective and efficient assessment systems and data collection processes that provide a record of baseline measures and track longitudinal trends.
  • Work with administrators, principals and classroom teachers to develop programs and incorporate practices and technology that help students of differing abilities and interests to achieve high standards.
  • Work with administrators and teachers to develop and implement after‑school and summer school programs.
  • Ensure that curriculum and instruction incorporates the experiences, culture, history and perspectives of people from various cultures and backgrounds.
  • Oversee the alignment of secondary courses, transcripts, Hathaway courses, and district‑wide standards.
  • Oversee and coordinate the evaluation of certified staff and provide assistance and resource services to the district‑wide evaluation of staff.
  • Participate in the analysis and recommendations derived from the District testing programs.
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of certified personnel.
  • Communicate the latest developments in curriculum and innovative instructional programs to improve student achievement.
  • Assist the Superintendent in the development and implementation of administrative practices, policies and procedures, and strategic decision‑making for the District.
  • Develop and direct school, community and parent involvement programs as appropriate to the instructional programs in the District.
