Special Education Evaluator and Behaviorist

Qualifications
  • Assess the educational, learning styles, and program needs of students referred for a special education evaluation. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities.
  • This individual will also help coordinate Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) that address students’ concerning behaviors and provide a means to help the students become more academically successful and independent.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Support student acquisition of core curriculum and content standards identified by the State of Wyoming and Washakie County School District #1.
  • Assist staff in defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; implementing strategies for improving behavior; and identifying triggers to behaviors.
  • Facilitate team meetings with the identified student’s teachers and parents for the purpose of completing a Functional Behavior Assessment.
  • Promote research‑based positive behavior interventions in which “At Risk” students thrive: behavior instruction that is specialized, direct, and provides ample practice.
  • Regard assessment as a joint venture through which both student and teacher understanding is enhanced.
  • Engage parents in the student behavior intervention plan (BIP) process to involve and empower parents.
  • Review behavior referrals and data reports.
  • Gather student data through direct observation, screening tools, and interviews with students, staff, and parents to complete the FBA and develop a BIP.
  • Attend professional development opportunities to maintain a high level of skill and knowledge of current research and practices.
  • Serve as a consultant to school personnel and parents.
  • Organize and schedule time commitments to meet demands of the job.
  • Provide instruction to small groups of children in Social/Emotional skills.
  • Participate in eligibility and IEP meetings as requested.
  • Reports to Special Education Director and/or building principal.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality when entrusted with personal information pertaining to students or staff members.

  • BCBA certified and/or extensive classroom experience.
