Support Worker (Night Shift)

Compensation: £12.96 per hour (plus £4.40 per night shift for unsociable hours)
Hours: 37 per week, Shift pattern 9 pm – 7 am
Organization: Southdown – a not-for-profit provider supporting 160 adults with learning and physical disabilities across Sussex, operating 23 supported living services and 4 residential care homes.
What you’ll be doingAs a Support Worker on the night shift, you will support our clients to ensure they are safe and well throughout the night. Your help will build clients’ confidence and independence through empowering care in a rewarding role where no two shifts are the same.
Responsibilities
• Provide personal care and support to individuals with learning disabilities, including intimate and personal care as needed;
• Monitor clients’ wellbeing and safety during the night;
• Assist with medication, record-keeping, and care plans;
• Respond to medical or safety incidents and follow proper protocols;
• Support clients in developing independence and life skills;
• Assist in community activities when required;
• Maintain accurate records and logs;
• Collaborate with team and carers to deliver person‑centred care.
Essential:
- Experience supporting clients with complex needs and challenging behaviours
- Patient, empathetic approach
- Completion of Southdown’s training in health & social care, moving and handling, Positive Behaviour Support, safeguarding, and health protocols
- Willingness to support intimate and personal care needs
- Enhanced DBS check (paid for by Southdown)
Desirable:
- Knowledge of medication administration and record‑keeping
- Previous professional or personal care experience
- Familiarity with Makaton or other non‑verbal communication methods
- Physical ability to assist with mobility and participating in activities like long walks
- A full manual driving licence may be required to operate service vehicles
- Due to nature of care, post may sometimes be restricted to applicants of a particular sex per Equality Act 2010, depending on client needs
