The Environment & Innovation team is at the forefront of Southern Water’s drive to enhance and protect the environment. Deploying the latest innovative solutions and working in partnership with our customers and stakeholders, the team takes a holistic approach to managing water quality and flow across the region. Currently delivering a £50million portfolio which rapidly expands to over £2 billion over the next 10 years.

This is a fast‑paced team that is now expanding to continue to deliver a larger programme of sustainable and innovative solutions. This role sits in the part of the directorate that focuses on improving bathing water quality.

Bathing water quality can be impacted by several factors including leaking or damaged sewers, storm overflows, agricultural runoff, illegal connections, seabird or other animal waste, incorrect disposal of waste and other marine activities. This is a hybrid role with a blend of delivery and technical subject matter expertise. You will be responsible for developing and leading innovation projects which are aligned with improving bathing water quality across the south the business priorities (water or wastewater);

ensuring that those projects drive results for the business and for the wider community innovation into the business.

• Technical assurance of potential concepts, ideas and projects.
• Internal and external engagement to ensure projects are relevant and focused on key business priorities.
• Development of project scope and plans.
• Responsible for the successful delivery of bathing water improvement plans, innovation and projects.
• Managing budget, milestone, benefit tracking, risk, etc.
• Maintaining governance and reporting for projects.

• Experience delivering a portfolio of projects.
• A minimum of three years of experience in a similar role or can demonstrate equivalent experience.
• Experience delivering within a fast‑paced team
• Experience in an environmental or utilities sectors/areas (desirable) within innovation  R&D functions as well as a background within utilities (preferably water) – desirable.
• Technical knowledge of water and/or wastewater and/or bathing water regulations (desirable)-operations, capital delivery and assets – desirable.
• APM qualified or equivalent
• A passion for the environment and communities
