Department Details

This position will be working Registration’s in the Emergency Room Department from 12 a.m. to 8 a.m. and will include rotating weekends and holidays.

Job Summary

Two major functions of the Patient Access Representative (PAR) are patient registration and scheduling. Depending on setting, the PAR may perform registration alone, scheduling alone, or both. Additional duties include:

  • Greet patients/residents and verify demographics for registration.
  • Gather and process paperwork, including forms, signatures, and financial responsibility.
  • Collect co-payments, pre-payments, and payments on account balances.
  • Address registration work queue issues such as errors and denied insurance claims.
  • Schedule appointments, obtain referrals, conduct pre-authorization, arrange interpreter services, and check in/out.
  • Coordinate with nursing, providers, and other staff to meet patient needs.
  • Operate multi-line telephones and may serve as switchboard operator.
  • Prepare and coordinate charts, discuss financial assistance, conduct prior authorizations, generate reports, and coordinate Telemed appointments.
  • Serve as mentor for new staff and maintain professional conduct and confidentiality.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary education preferred).
  • One year of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
  • Customer service skills essential; six months of customer service experience desired.
  • Medical terminology helpful.
  • May require Basic Life Support (BLS) for certain locations.
