Summary
:
This entry-level nursing opportunity is for candidates interested in serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, delivering care in a community residential home setting, and collaborating with individuals, families, providers, and other stakeholders to enhance health and quality of living.
- Provide nursing care and oversight by implementing the individual’s health care plan, including charting vital signs, applying medical/surgical dressings, and administering medications as prescribed by the primary/specialty physician
- Assist with daily maintenance and personal care per the Individual Service Plan (ISP); maintain individual records and files
- Initiate referrals for medical services, coordinate scheduling, and engage in health-related protections and advocacy
- Communicate health issues to staff and keep individuals’ families/guardians informed about hospitalizations and rehabilitative care
- Inform staff of medical concerns that may affect progress or activity level
- Order medications and manage medical supplies, materials, and equipment
- Initiate emergency procedures as needed (basic first aid/CPR, tracheotomy care, catheterizations)
- Provide training to direct support staff on equipment use and treatments
- Transport individuals to work, medical appointments, and community activities as required
- Must possess a current, active license to practice as an LPN in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Must possess a current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License
- Incumbents must obtain and maintain Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Ability to develop and maintain respectful, caring, ethical relationships with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Capacity to assist/lift individuals with physical disabilities or limited mobility
- Knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods, and techniques
- Ability to maintain accurate records and handle confidential information discreetly
- Familiarity with safety practices and medical terminology/abbreviations
- Ability to transcribe, read, and comprehend English
Some LPN positions may be assigned to locations requiring 24/7 nursing staff, with mandatory overtime as circumstances dictate. This position is designated as an "EMERGENCY" position in the DDS Emergency Plan; employees may be required to report to work during Governor-declared emergencies.
All employees are paid bi-weekly and must have direct deposit.
