Position: Security Team Specialist I

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is dedicated to creating innovative and genuine opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to participate fully in their communities. The facility, a 400‑acre campus with a 250‑bed residential program, seeks a Security Team Specialist I to maintain a safe and secure environment for residents, staff, and property.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure and maintain secure campus environment.
  • Provide security for residents, staff, and property on the 400‑acre campus.
  • Patrol assigned campus buildings and adjacent areas on foot or in a patrol vehicle.
  • Guard against trespass, theft, damage to property or injury to individuals by screening visitors, inspecting rooms, controlling crowds, conducting surveillance, searching for missing goods and persons, and investigating complaints and reports of suspicious activity.
  • Mediate disputes and inspect buildings, grounds, fire lanes, and emergency exits for compliance with safety standards to ensure campus security.
  • Assist local fire department, law enforcement, and emergency medical services during emergencies.
  • Assist in the investigation of traffic accidents, write reports, and reinforce campus traffic, parking, and safety regulations.
  • Assist in evacuation of youth, clients, and residents during drills or emergency situations.
  • Assist grounds crew during snow storms.
  • Operate equipment such as telephone switchboard, two‑way radios, fax, and computer equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Eligible for appointment as a special police officer under Chapter 22C, Section 60 (DPH) and Section 59 (DMH & DMR) of the Massachusetts General Laws.
  • Possession of an Associate’s degree or higher.
  • Knowledge of security methods and procedures for buildings and property.
  • Understanding of the laws, rules and regulations governing arrest, search, and seizure.
  • Acceptable driving record.
Position Details

Location:

Wrentham, MA – Wrentham Developmental Center (WDC). The position is designated as an "EMERGENCY" position in DDS Emergency Plan; selected candidates may be required to report to work if the Governor declares a state of emergency. The program operates 24‑hour/7‑day; candidates must be flexible and able to perform mandatory overtime as needed.

Schedule:

Full‑time, 40‑hour weekly position. Shift: 3rd shift, 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday). Days off:
Sunday, Monday. Flexibility with schedule is required.

Pre‑Hire Process
  • Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC) Abuse Registry Search.
  • Criminal background check (CORI) per Executive Office of Health and Human Services regulations.
  • National Background Check, Chapter 234 of the Acts of 2014, fingerprint‑based check.
  • Verification of education, licensure, and certifications per Human Resources Division guidelines.

  • Special Requirements:
    Current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
  • Eligibility for appointment as a special police officer under Chapter 22C, Section 60 (DPH) and Section 59 (DMH & DMR) of the Massachusetts General Laws.
Additional Information

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with the internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division. Salary ranges are in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreements.

Title 101 CMR 23.00 – Applies to congregate care and 24/7 facilities. Successful candidates must acknowledge and attest to their COVID‑19 and influenza vaccination status.
