Temporary Bookkeeper
Duration: 4–6 weeks (Temporary Sickness Cover)
Location: Wrexham – onsite – 3 days office based – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
We are seeking an experienced and organised Bookkeeper to provide temporary cover during a period of sickness. The successful candidate will support the day‑to‑day financial operations of the company and several smaller entities within the Group, ensuring accurate financial records, timely payroll processing, and effective cash flow reporting. As well as supporting a couple of staff.
This is a hands‑on role requiring someone who can work independently, prioritise workloads, and maintain high levels of accuracy in a fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities BookkeepingMore on hand to support with any escalations from the team.
- Maintain accurate financial records for the company and associated smaller Group entities.
- Process purchase and sales ledger transactions.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts.
- Manage supplier payments and customer receipts.
- Prepare journals, accruals, and prepayments where required.
- Ensure accounting records are up to date and accurate.
- Oversee the monthly payroll process.
- Ensure payroll information is accurate and submitted within deadlines.
- Maintain payroll records and resolve payroll queries where necessary.
- Process pension contributions and statutory payments as required.
- Maintain and update the Group cash flow forecast.
- Incorporate actual cash movements into forecasting models.
- Monitor daily cash positions across Group entities.
- Highlight potential cash flow issues and variances.
- Support short‑term cash planning and reporting.
- Assist with month‑end close activities.
- Prepare reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Support management reporting by providing accurate financial information.
- Assist with ad hoc finance tasks as required.
- Maintain organised financial records and documentation.
- Support the wider finance team during the cover period.
- Ensure compliance with internal financial controls and company policies.
- Previous bookkeeping experience in a commercial environment.
- Experience managing multiple companies or entities.
- Strong understanding of double‑entry bookkeeping.
- Payroll experience.
- Experience producing and maintaining cash flow forecasts.
- Excellent Excel skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Experience with accounting software such as Xero, Sage, Quick Books or similar.
- AAT qualified or qualified by experience.
- Experience supporting month‑end processes.
- Experience working within an SME or Group structure.
- Reliable and dependable.
- Proactive and self‑motivated.
- Comfortable managing competing priorities.
- Strong communication skills.
- Professional and discreet when handling confidential financial information.
- Temporary contract for approximately 4–6 weeks to provide sickness cover.
- Immediate start preferred.
- Part time hours – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – based onsite – possibly a 4 day week, over month end.
- Competitive hourly rate, depending on experience.
