Starting salary: £35,875 for a 39 hour week (incl. 20% unsocial). You may work 37, 39, or 41 hours per week. Pay:
- 37 hours = £33,746 per year
- 39 hours = £35,875 per year
- 41 hours = £38,003 per year
All salary figures include any additional allowances.

Key ResponsibilitiesAs a prison officer you will:
- manage a quality service
- communicate and influence staff, visitors and inmates
- make effective decisions under pressure
- provide care and support within the prison environment
- Be at least 18 years old at the commencement of employment.
- Meet the Civil Service Nationality requirements.
- Pass a medical and fitness assessment, including eyesight and hearing standards.
- For safety reasons, meet a suitable standard of hearing without hearing aids.
- Must have been a resident in the UK for the last 3 years to work in a high security prison (category
A). - Tattoos permitted provided they are not offensive, discriminatory, violent or intimidating; facial tattoos generally not acceptable unless for cultural, religious or medical reasons.
- Competent in basic judgement and numerical skills.
- 25 days’ annual holiday (rising to 30 days after 10 years of service).

- Civil Service pension with employer contributions of 28.97%.

Our Online Assessment Centre assesses suitability for a prison officer and may also offer an Operational Support Grade (OSG) role if unsuccessful.
