Overview

Shape the future of growth. We’re looking for a Business Development Director to lead the expansion of our Transformative Business Services business and wider Sopra Steria outsourced services portfolio. In this role, you’ll identify, shape, and qualify high‑value BPO opportunities, build strong pipelines, and lead the sales cycle through to close. You’ll work closely with Strategic Sales and delivery teams to design compelling outsourced solutions and win complex, multi‑stakeholder deals.

This is a senior leadership role where you’ll combine market insight with commercial acumen to set direction, influence strategy, and translate customer needs and emerging trends into clear, actionable growth plans. This role can be based anywhere in the UK, with client travel and occasional travel to our London office.

What you will be doing:
  • Contribute to shaping and delivering the sector growth strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Build and manage a strong sales pipeline by identifying prospects, developing opportunities, and progressing them through all stages of the sales cycle.
  • Develop and maintain effective customer relationships, working collaboratively with internal teams to achieve shared goals.
  • Provide accurate sales forecasts and share market insights to inform strategy and decision‑making.
  • Create compelling proposals and value propositions that meet customer needs and company objectives, following agreed governance processes.
  • Promote a collaborative culture by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and working across teams to deliver results.
What you’ll bring:
  • Proven experience in senior sales or client management roles, with a strong track record of selling BPO / outsourced service solutions and delivering measurable results.
  • Strong understanding of one or more relevant sectors: financial services, energy, utilities, or central government.
  • Ability to apply technical and commercial knowledge to shape outsourced solutions and engage confidently with clients and internal delivery teams.
  • Comfortable working independently, taking ownership of priorities and driving outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Collaborative approach, working effectively across teams and fostering a positive, inclusive culture.
