Job Title
Business Development Manager
Working Hours37 hours per week with a flexible start time of 8am-10am and a flexible finish time of 4pm-6pm. Occasional evenings or early mornings may be required.
Pay and BenefitsSalary:
Up to £40,000 per annum.
Pension:
Up to 10% matching contribution to group personal pension scheme and 4× basic salary cover for death in service after qualifying period.
Other Benefits:
Annual £250 Personal Development Allowance, Health Cash Plan and Hospital Treatment Insurance, discretionary Annual Bonus, continuing professional development after qualifying period.
Car Allowance: £400 per month plus 0.25p mileage allowance.
Holidays: 28 days plus statutory bank holidays and a birthday holiday.
Reporting & Key RelationshipsResponsible to:
Head of Business Development.
Other key relationships include the Chief Executive, Finance Director, Head of Credit, Portfolio & Compliance Manager, Marketing and Impact Manager, other Business Development Managers and various office, marketing and financial administrators.
Job PurposeGenerate enquiries for viable loan applications, prepare loan assessments for sanctioning and develop the market for loans to small businesses.
Key Responsibilities- Grow, develop and maintain a referral network with bank officials, brokers, accountants, business advisers and other intermediaries.
- Proactively engage potential referrers to generate loan enquiries.
- Participate in sales activities to identify potential clients and develop lending propositions, growing deal flow and achieving targets for new loans.
- Respond to and qualify initial loan enquiries.
- Follow up with loan applicants and visit potential borrowers to assess requirements.
- Secure necessary data for assessments, record information in customer files.
- Provide guidance to borrowers and advisers to develop new loan applications.
- Prepare loan applications for presentation to the credit sanctioning team.
- Interpret key measures for clients to enable accurate reporting.
- Maintain ongoing client relationships, monitoring defaults and chasing bad debts.
- Assist with maintenance of regular payments from the current portfolio and work with the recoveries team.
- Promote BCRS Business Loans through networking, conferences, trade fairs and other events.
- Attend work‑planning reviews and contribute to the strategic direction of BCRS Business Loans.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to strategic working groups.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures, including the Performance Management Framework and Equal Opportunities Policy.
- Perform any other duties as required by the Head of Business Development or Chief Executive.
- Minimum 6 GCSEs, including Maths and English.
- Minimum 2 A‑levels.
- Minimum 5 years of recent loan officer experience at a bank, asset finance company, invoice discounter, or other business lender.
- Existing referral network with strong networking skills.
- Experience working with intermediaries, business advisers and agencies.
- Ability to appraise and analyse a business to write a credit report.
- Ability to manage customer meetings and handle customers with financial difficulty.
- Ability to work remotely and independently in the field.
- Institute of Bankers or Financial Services qualification or a business or sales qualification.
- Degree‑level qualification.
- Project management experience.
- Experience using databases.
- Business‑to‑business sales and understanding of SMEs and small‑business finance.
- Business planning and stages of business growth.
- Knowledge of the local communities and sectorial construct of businesses operating in the area.
- Project management (desirable).
