Job Description & How to Apply Below
Senior Foreman / Ganger – Groundworks & Concrete Operations

Knights Construction are a leading construction company specialising in Agriculture, Build, Civils and Flooring. The strength of our organisation lies in the quality of the people we work with. We’re proud to employ driven, capable individuals and, due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, we are looking to strengthen our team.

Operating across multiple divisions, we deliver efficient, high-quality projects from pre-construction through to completion, applying industry best practice at every stage.

We’re looking for a Senior Foreman / Ganger to join our team and play a key role in supporting the Groundworks & Concrete Operations.

The role will have responsibility for overseeing our concrete works and associated groundworks activities, but this is not purely a concrete-focused position. We are looking for somebody with a strong all-round understanding of groundworks who is comfortable organising labour, setting up works, coordinating plant and equipment and ensuring that works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.

The successful candidate will be expected to take ownership of day-to-day activities on site, working closely with Site and Contracts Management to ensure that the workforce, plant, materials and work areas are properly organised and ready ahead of each phase of work.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise groundworks teams carrying out concrete, drainage, foundations, slabs, external works and general civil engineering activities.
  • Take a leading role in organising and overseeing concrete pours, including preparation, sequencing, labour requirements, plant and access.
  • Plan and organise day-to-day site activities to ensure work progresses safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure work areas are properly set up and prepared before works commence.
  • Coordinate the movement, allocation and use of plant and equipment, ensuring the correct machinery is available for the work being undertaken.
  • Assist with planning requirements for excavators, dumpers, rollers, telehandlers, concrete equipment and other associated plant.
  • Ensure plant is used correctly, daily checks are completed and defects or issues are reported promptly.
  • Organise labour and allocate duties across the teams according to programme requirements and individual competencies.
  • Work closely with Site Managers, Engineers and Contracts Managers to understand upcoming works and plan labour, plant and material requirements.
  • Read and work from construction drawings, site plans, levels and specifications.
  • Assist with setting out and checking levels where required.
  • Ensure excavations, formation levels, reinforcement, shutters, formwork and other preparatory works are ready ahead of concrete operations.
  • Coordinate concrete deliveries and ensure pours are properly planned to minimise delays and waste.
  • Ensure finished work is completed to the required quality and specification.
  • Identify potential problems early and work with management to find practical solutions.
  • Ensure good housekeeping is maintained across working areas.
  • Monitor the performance and productivity of the teams and address issues where necessary.
  • Support and mentor less experienced operatives within the team.
  • Liaise effectively with subcontractors, suppliers, drivers and other trades working around the area.
  • Ensure materials and equipment are stored safely and are available when required.
  • Assist with site logistics, access arrangements and the organisation of working areas.
  • Participate in briefings, toolbox talks and site meetings where required.
  • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with RAMS, company procedures and relevant health and safety requirements.
  • Stop or challenge unsafe working practices and immediately raise significant safety concerns with Site Management.
  • Report progress, delays, defects, plant issues and material requirements to management.
  • Complete or assist with relevant site records and paperwork as required.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties associated with the effective running of groundworks operations.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Strong practical experience within groundworks, civil engineering or construction.
  • Previous experience supervising or leading a groundworks team.
  • Good experience of concrete operations, although applicants do not need to come solely from a concrete background.
  • A strong understanding of how groundworks operations are planned and sequenced.
