Overview

The Emergency Department (ED) was purpose built in 2014 and offers state of-the-art facilities. This was part of a new development at YGC called the Emergency Quadrant (EQ) which brings all Emergency and Acute Services together. The EQ houses the ED, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), a 24 bed Acute Medical Unit, Surgical Assessment Unit, Radiology services, and a co-located Primary Care facility.

The ED sees a full case mix of undifferentiated emergencies encompassing all specialties including Major Trauma, Stroke, Cardiac, Vascular, ENT, Ophthalmology, Max Fax and Paediatrics. The Department has also been undergoing a process of implementation of modern models of Emergency Care including streaming, ambulatory majors, and rapid assessment. The ED is also keen to explore a 'Physician Response Vehicle
