Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Community Paediatrics in the East IHC, to assist in providing comprehensive and specialist child health services across this area of North Wales. The post will be based at the Childrens Centre, Wrexham Maelor Hospital, but cross county work will be encouraged. A particular interest in Adoption and Fostering work would be desirable but there is flexibility to develop specific areas of interest.

The post holder will be supported to undertake a lead role in safeguarding (county lead). The appointee will be part of a busy and cheerful department, with a clear emphasis on delivering top quality community based care to our local children and young people. There is close joint working between Community Paediatricians and the specialist paediatric nursing team including, Preschool Developmental Nursing team, School Age Learning Disability Team, Health Visitors and School Nurses, and Diana Nursing team as well as therapy services.

We have excellent working relationships with our acute colleagues, and with tertiary centre specialist services in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have responsibility for community paediatric services within Wrexham, cross country work to Flintshire may be needed appropriate with prior agreement with appointee in the job plan. The new post holder will work with a team of community paediatricians to provide this population based paediatric service.

The successful applicant will be expected to be actively involved in the clinical governance programme of the department, providing support to undergraduate and postgraduates as necessary.

The Consultant Paediatrician will ensure maintenance of relevant skills through continuing professional development with an annual appraisal.

The Consultant Paediatrician will provide clinical supervision for other community paediatricians and clinical and educational supervision for specialist paediatric trainees.

The Consultant Paediatrician will participate in the relevant children’s management meetings for the service
