Consultant Physician in General Medicine

This post is to support the development of medical services and contribute to the general medical on call rota. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop a special interest to complement those of our other departments.
Main duties of the job
- Ongoing medical care of patients admitted to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
- Support the Ambulatory Care Service and undertake outpatient clinic work depending on the clinician's specialty interest.
- There is the opportunity to take on additional clinical duties and lead roles, depending on interest.
- There is also a requirement to undertake on call for the medical take on a one in twelve (1:12) rotation.
- A comprehensive inpatient and outpatient service.
- Professional supervision and teaching of junior medical staff.
- Contributions to local undergraduate and postgraduate activity.
- Participation in clinical audit, continuing professional development and clinical governance activities on a local, Health Board and all Wales basis.
- Development of research and professional interests.
- Adhere to the BCUHB policies and guidelines
BCUHB provides a full range of primary, community, mental health, acute and specialist hospital services for the population of North Wales, across 3 acute hospitals and a network of community hospitals, health centres, clinics, and mental health units. It also co-ordinates or provides the work of GP practices and NHS services provided by dentists, opticians, and pharmacists across the region.
The Health Board is an integrated health system that strives for excellent, compassionate care delivered in partnership with the public sector and other statutory and third sector organisations.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
- GMC Specialist Registration or within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the date of interview
- MRCP
- Further Higher Degree
- Any other relevant postgraduate qualifications
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of the service.
- Ability to organise and manage own workload efficiently
- Experience of, and commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.
- Experience of, and commitment to, medical audit.
- Reflective approach to personal development with an ability to acknowledge and effectively manage poor performance.
- Participation in appropriate peer review processes.
- Experience of audit management
- Teaching of non-medical health professionals.
