Training Opportunity

As part of the Future for Thatch project, CITB NI have an exciting and rare opportunity for four people to train in thatching, helping to keep these skills alive and buildings in good repair for the next generation. The closing date for applications is 19 November, so submit an application promptly.

Students will receive training through a series of placements and will work towards acquiring an NVQ Level 3 qualification in thatching. As a full‑time training opportunity, students will receive a bursary to support them over the two‑year training period and will also receive mentoring support to help them seek employment or establish their own thatching business.

The role is an entry‑level opportunity, requiring no prior experience of thatching or construction. Students will receive a wide range of training and experience that will benefit them in future careers, including scaffolding training, health and safety and first aid training, alongside work on real thatched roofs and heritage sites. To get the most out of the programme, students should have an interest in thatching or construction, enjoy working with their hands, and have a passion for built heritage or history.
