About

the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Associate to join the Roads team based in Wales, in either our Cardiff or Wrexham offices. You will be providing leadership to a host of talented people ranging from our early career professionals to our established engineers and project managers across our Roads business, using your leadership skills and expertise to help us continue delivering exemplary services to our clients for a diverse range of sectors, clients and projects through all stages of the project life cycle.

You could find yourself leading a variety of projects including strategic network improvements, major and minor highway maintenance and asset renewals, active travel and public transport infrastructure, road safety interventions, as well as public realm initiatives. Our well‑established client base includes Welsh Government, Transport for Wales, North & Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent, South Wales Trunk Road Agent, and Welsh local authorities.

Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for delivering engineering solutions for projects, or work packages of varying scale, complexity, value and project stages, and could be working across several projects at any given time.
  • Act as a Project and/or Technical Delivery Lead in the planning, programming, pricing and delivery either of a single complex project, or across a portfolio of small to medium‑size projects.
  • Be responsible for project budget, programme, financial performance, technical standards and legal requirements.
  • Work directly with our clients, developing strong trusted relationships, proactively managing their expectations and comprehensively advising them.
  • Work collaboratively within the UK Roads discipline and our colleagues in the wider Transport and Infrastructure business to achieve our aims and objectives.
  • Use your leadership skills and expertise to support others to maximise their personal contribution to project/team goals.
  • Lead and manage other staff members in all areas of project delivery, and for the right candidate, line management.
  • Be responsible for compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and in‑house quality assurance standards/processes.
  • Actively participate with team resource coordination, supporting the set‑up of local and national teams and putting the right people in the right roles.
  • Support the Wales & Southwest Regional Director and leadership team with the implementation of business strategies and initiatives.
Qualifications
  • A passion for design and developing innovative solutions, demonstrating initiative and ingenuity to solve engineering problems, with a proven track record of achieving excellence.
  • CEng or IEng with post‑professional qualification experience.
  • Wide‑range knowledge and experience of highway infrastructure engineering and design at various stages of the project life cycle.
  • Broad knowledge of relevant design standards and codes of best practice.
  • An ability to improve, motivate and inspire others to achieve excellence.
  • Commercial and risk management and resolution.
  • Experience in the checking and approval of reports and designs for transport studies, and or, construction projects.
  • The ability to win new work.
  • Expert client/stakeholder management and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Leadership in health, safety and welfare.
