Overview

RPS is seeking experienced Network Quality Assurance Technicians to join our Water Quality & Valve Operations (Flushing) Team supporting our client Wessex Water
. Technicians will be based around Bath and Taunton
. You’ll play a key role in supporting field operations, ensuring high-quality standards are maintained during network activities such as shut-offs, reconnections, and stop tap replacements.

This role would suit someone with a solid background in water network operations—particularly around valve operations, flushing, and stop tap work—who is looking to progress into a quality-focused position with direct client engagement.

About The Team

The RPS Asset, Surveying, and Inspection (AS&I) team provides industry leading services to the UK Water Industry. Our employees are involved in services supporting Water Networks, Drainage, Surveying, Leakage Consultancy, Water Resources and Efficiency. The team analyses complex data and provides pragmatic solutions, reducing water leakage and preventing flooding and pollution in local communities. Our team assesses, diagnoses, and determines the most appropriate solution to reduce leakage, fully supporting the delivery of regulatory targets and pinpointing leakage with a level of accuracy that delivers great service for clients.

You

As a key member of the Asset, Surveying, and Inspection (AS&I) business, your role as a Network Quality Assurance Technician is critical to our strategic priorities— to deliver great work for our clients by providing excellent customer service and executing complex operational tasks. Whether you are just starting out or taking the next step in your career, this position provides an opportunity for you to progress with RPS.

You will need to work flexibly, working weekends, evenings and overtime if required. Be willing to travel to different locations. It is essential that you enjoy working outdoors, as come rain or shine you will mostly be outside.

Your Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned flushing activities in line with pre-set flushing programmes and network plans.
  • Operate hydrants and valves safely and effectively to maintain network integrity.
  • Use chlorine and turbidity monitoring equipment to capture and record accurate water quality data throughout the flushing process.
  • Undertake network operations including controlled shut-offs and reconnections as required.
  • Ensure water quality standards are maintained and any anomalies are promptly reported.
  • Accurately record data from field activities, ensuring all results are logged and submitted to the client in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with network operations teams and supervisors to coordinate field activities and maintain clear communication.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures during fieldwork.
Skills, Knowledge, And Experience
  • Proven experience in water network operations, particularly valve operation.
  • Good understanding of water quality principles and flushing techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards.
  • Hands‑on, practical, and proactive approach to work.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with operational teams.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
Qualifications
  • Full UK driving licence
  • National Water & Hygiene
  • Unit 2 NRSWA
Health And Safety
  • Moving heavy items including inspection chamber covers.
  • Working in all weather conditions (this could include night work also).
  • You may be required to work in confined spaces and on highways.
  • Mandatory drug and alcohol tests are undertaken for this role and a DBS check will be undertaken.
