The Role
On behalf of our client, we are seeking an experienced Management Accountant to provide maternity cover for a minimum of 12 months. In this role, you will lead a small, capable finance team and oversee the delivery of all core financial processes across the business.
You will play a pivotal part in maintaining the organisation's financial stability and operational efficiency through accurate reporting, meaningful analysis, and strong financial control. This position requires a blend of technical accounting expertise and supportive, collaborative leadership. You will foster a culture of precision, accountability, and teamwork.
Skills & Attributes
Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with a minimum of 3 years' experience in a Management Accountant role
Strong technical accounting background with excellent analytical skills
Highly organised and detail-focused, with the ability to prioritise effectively
Confident communicator, able to work cross-functionally and build positive relationships with external partners
Calm and resilient under pressure, with the ability to meet tight deadlines
Commercially minded and proactive, with a strong problem‑solving approach
Supportive and approachable leadership style, committed to team development
Comfortable working with financial systems and data (Pegasus experience beneficial but not essential)
Professional, trustworthy, and committed to maintaining confidentiality
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor and support a small finance team, ensuring accuracy and efficiency across all accounting processes
Oversee the maintenance of purchase, sales, and nominal ledgers in line with company policies
Manage the month-end close process, including journals, reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments
Produce monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts, offering clear insights and commentary for senior leadership
Prepare, monitor and report on budgets and forecasts to support business planning
Manage cashflow and ensure appropriate liquidity to support operational requirements
Oversee payroll and pension administration, ensuring compliance with HMRC and all relevant legislation
Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register, profit and loss accounts, and balance sheet reports
Manage online banking processes, including the preparation and approval of payments
Liaise with auditors, external accountants, and financial stakeholders to ensure compliance and accuracy
Provide weekly management statistics and commentary for performance tracking
Conduct financial analysis and support ad-hoc projects to drive strategic initiatives
Additional Responsibilities
Prepare and submit statutory returns, including VAT and corporation tax
File annual accounts and statements with Companies House
Oversee company insurance renewals and utility contracts to ensure cost-effectiveness and compliance
Ensure all financial activities adhere to internal controls, best practice and regulatory requirements
Handle and process personal data in a lawful, transparent and confidential manner
General / Ad‑Hoc Duties
Assist with post-handling and administrative correspondence when required
Support day-to-day business queries and office interactions
Provide a friendly, professional welcome to visitors when covering front‑of‑house dutiesBenefits
