Graduate assistant accountant

It’s a great time to be joining this successful and profitable Stoke based manufacturing business, as they have a full book of orders. You’ll be working closely with the Finance Manager, and learning from her. The role sits in the Credit Control function, on the Finance side. The team makes sure the business gets paid on time for the goods it provides.

There is a lot that goes into this; for example preparing forecasts, looking at credit limits, and making sure that deliveries are insured. You’ll be working closely with other internal teams, mainly Commercial and Transport. At times you will need to speak with customers; for example a payment may be needed before a delivery is released. Or a payment may be late, so you will follow this up.

It’s very important work. It wouldn’t happen immediately, and you would be given training. But not everyone likes the idea of doing this as some conversations may be a little uncomfortable, so please think if it’s something you would be happy doing. You will learn a lot. And going forward, the business will support you to study for additional accountancy qualifications.

In terms of ongoing development, they will see what you are good at and what you would like to do, and help you get there. For example, getting involved with Management Accounts. Or maybe Costing. You’ll need to have an Accountancy related degree. Though other Financial related degrees are good too, if you can demonstrate an interest in beginning a career in Accountancy.
