As a Smoking Cessation Practitioner, you will provide intensive behavioural support and advice to clients who want to stop smoking. You will work closely with other clinical staff and the wider HMQ team to ensure patients receive appropriate pharmacotherapy.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated practitioner to be part of the integrated smoking cessation service in the BCUHB area. You will positively influence smokers who seek support to quit, working effectively with other clinical staff to deliver pharmacotherapy and behavioural support.

Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver individual and group smoking cessation support to clients.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff and the HMQ team to ensure pharmacotherapy provision.
  • Keep accurate, confidential client records.
  • Work flexibly and help shape the development of the service.
  • Attend further training in smoking cessation if required.

Person Specification Qualifications/knowledge
  • Recognised professional qualification in health or social care (e.g., RGN, Diploma in Counselling, CQSW, or a relevant degree) or equivalent experience.
  • Counselling qualification such as a Certificate in Counselling or WNB Counselling Skills.
Experience
  • Experience of providing client‑centred services in a health or social care setting.
  • Experience delivering specialist smoking cessation support, including group settings.
Aptitude and Abilities
  • Organisation and time‑management skills.
  • IT literacy, including Microsoft Office.
  • Record‑keeping on bespoke databases.
  • Planning efficiency.
  • Understanding of client confidentiality principles.
  • Knowledge of health‑related behaviour change strategies and smoking cessation guidelines.
  • Understanding of clinical governance, safeguarding and local area policies.
  • Knowledge of the Quit Manager system.
  • Ability to speak Welsh or willingness to learn.
  • Write reports with clear performance data communication.

Other Requirements
  • Willingness and ability to travel between sites.

Salary: £31,516 to £38,364 a year (pro‑rata).
