Overview

The service delivers healthcare support to children and young people with learning disabilities aged 0‑18 and their families, working as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes learning disability and paediatric nurses, support workers, clinical psychologists, paediatricians, psychiatrists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and dietitians.

Responsibilities
  • Work under the supervision of a Learning Disability Nurse and Consultant Clinical Psychologist, supporting one child for up to two hours per day in the family home and local community.
  • Implement a psychologically‑informed positive behaviour support plan.
  • Establish good rapport and enable accessible communication with the child and family.
  • Support and encourage engagement in meaningful activities and promote independence skills.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure a suitable environment and high quality of life for the child.
Qualifications
  • Experience or training in learning disability, paediatric nursing, psychology or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with children, families and professionals.
  • Good understanding of positive behaviour support and person‑centred care.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Welsh is desirable;
    Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
