Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Responsibilities
The post holder supports qualified mechanics in the inspection, servicing, and repair of heavy goods vehicles, light commercial vehicles and plant equipment. They undertake routine maintenance such as tyre checks, fluid checks, lubrication and basic component replacement under supervision, and assist with statutory safety inspections (e.g. PSV/HGV standards).
The role requires ongoing on‑the‑job training, keeping training logs, assessments and completing practical tasks set by mentors or training providers. As competence increases the post holder will handle more complex mechanical tasks.
Progress and increasing independence will be reviewed regularly with supervisors and the training provider.
Training and QualificationWorking towards the Level 2 NVQ Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair qualification through structured training and college attendance.
