Urgent Care Practitioner

Job Overview

North Wales GP OOH's Service is recruiting Urgent Care Practitioners. Candidates should be working towards a Master's in Advanced Practice and have completed or be close to completing the independent prescribing and clinical examination modules.

We aim to deliver a high standard of care to the people of North Wales. Hours are flexible with enhanced rates during out‑of‑hours periods. The service offers support to increase knowledge of urgent care and leadership through mentorship, clinical supervision, and allocated time for professional development, including the possibility of completing a full Master’s.

• Provide same‑day care to patients presenting with new onset symptoms or acute exacerbations of long‑term conditions.
• Work autonomously in a holistic manner, assessing, treating, and referring to other health care professionals as required.
• Participate in mentoring and training colleagues to develop skills and improve the service.

• Registered Paramedic/Registered Nurse
• Successful completion of Clinical examination course at Master level
• Successful completion of non‑medical prescribing course or working toward it at Master level
• Current professional portfolio reflecting professional development
• Degree in professional practice or equivalent in relevant clinical area

• ILS
• Research degree
• Completion of all components of relevant MSc
• Teaching, assessing, and mentoring qualification

Essential criteria: Sufficient post‑registration experience; experience of delivering patient care in urgent care, primary care, or community setting; experience of multi‑disciplinary working.

Desirable criteria: Significant clinical practice and experience working in an autonomous/extended role; experience of managing others.

Essential criteria: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including emotional intelligence, to deal effectively with complex and sensitive patient information, distressed or aggressive patients, or those with impaired understanding; ability to liaise and communicate effectively with all multidisciplinary team members and other services; proficiency with various media and IT systems such as video calling and Skype; holistic assessment, critical analysis of patient information or situations, and independent clinical judgment;

independent practice within occupational guidelines; skilled in clinical history taking.

Desirable criteria: Comprehensive physical assessment across the lifespan; clinical skills: initial/re‑insertion of male/female urethral catheters, reinsertion of suprapubic catheters, care of acute/chronic/post‑op wounds, bowel management, end‑of‑life care, syringe‑driver set‑up, verification of death, care of PEGs; ability to organise and deliver high‑standard, research‑based clinical care, including developing and implementing policies and protocols; clear understanding of professional responsibility and accountability.

The role requires proficiency in Welsh desirable;
