Bridgend, South Wales | 3 or 4 days per week | No OOH
This team in Bridgend is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join its independent, RCVS-accredited small animal hospital. This permanent part-time position offers an opportunity to take a leading role in hospital patient care, oversee outpatient diagnostic imaging and help maintain consistently high clinical standards, while supporting the development of graduate vets.
The practice offers a friendly, collaborative working environment where clinical judgement and patient welfare come first. As a genuinely independent, vet-owned hospital, this allows its clinicians to focus on delivering the best possible care without corporate targets or commercial pressure. The owners work alongside the team, creating an approachable culture where clinical discussions, shared learning and continuous improvement are actively encouraged.
Therole
The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing new admissions, developing appropriate treatment plans and regularly reviewing patients' progress throughout their hospital stay. Clear communication with colleagues and owners will be essential to ensure continuity of care and consistently high standards across the hospital.
Alongside inpatient management, the role includes overseeing outpatient diagnostic procedures and imaging, using the hospital's facilities to support accurate diagnoses and effective treatment. The position would suit a confident clinician who enjoys taking responsibility for cases, making sound clinical decisions and helping others develop their skills.
They have their own on-site out-of-hours service, allowing hospitalised patients to benefit from continuity of care. The practice is also an EMS, VetGDP and veterinary nursing training practice, with an active approach to quality improvement and clinical development. The caseload offers plenty of variety, including cases and procedures that may be referred elsewhere in other settings but are managed in-house.
The successful candidate will have at least four years of UK clinical experience and be confident managing inpatients and emergency and critical care cases, interpreting diagnostic findings and making independent clinical decisions. They will enjoy coaching and training colleagues, working closely with the wider hospital team and promoting evidence-based best practice. Experience as a VetGDP Adviser would be desirable, while postgraduate qualifications or Advanced Practitioner status in medicine, emergency and critical care, diagnostic imaging or cardiology would be advantageous.
