Job Description Purpose of the Post

Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.

Responsibility for Functions
  • Will be responsible for the equipment used at the time
Main Duties
  • Lead and present projects and activities for young people in their communities.
  • Ensure that young people feel safe, receive support, are appreciated, learn how to take control over their lives and identify and oppose harmful influences.
  • Assist the Youth Worker to identify the interests and needs of young people to develop sessions, projects and organise events and activities.
  • Offer a range of learning experiences for young people using informal youth work methods within communities.
  • Present courses that lead to accreditation (Agored Cymru, ASDAN Youth Challenge and Achievement Schemes, Children’s University).
  • Adhere to all employer policies and statutory requirements, including Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, and Child Protection.
  • Maintain information in the information gathering system on young people.
  • Ensure the Young Person’s voice is heard in everything offered and developed.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Attend training for youth workers organised by or on behalf of the Council.
  • Engage in self‑development and maintain Health and Safety compliance.
  • Operate within the Council’s policies on equal opportunities and equality.
  • Manage information in accordance with Council guidelines and Data Protection legislation.
  • Commit to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions and encourage others to act positively.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duty corresponding to the salary level and responsibility level.
  • Report any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.
Special Circumstances
  • Employment: JNC for Youth and Community Workers Points 5 – 9
  • Annual Leave: 30 days in the first five years, 35 days thereafter (pro‑rata).
  • Working Hours:

    Working week of 6 hours per week, evenings, weekends, with flexibility often required.
  • Car Use:
    Full driving licence required; designated as an occasional car user.
  • Language:
    Fluent in Welsh and English orally and in writing from the outset.
  • Catchment:
    Appointment in your catchment area, with possible work outside catchment if required.
  • Criminal Records Bureau check required.
  • Flexibility:
    Ability to accept changes to duties and responsibilities as service needs evolve.
