Why North Tyneside Council?

North Tyneside Children’s Social Care is considered to be Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted. We want the best for our children and families and would encourage you to join us in our commitment to continuously delivering the services that make a difference to children and young people.

In January 2025 Ofsted stated that

“An unquestionable strength in North Tyneside is that leaders have created a culture where social workers can safely practice and do their best for children. This authentic approach by leaders and valued investment in the workforce mean that staff want to stay and make a positive difference to children’s lives”

An opportunity has arisen to join North Tyneside as a Team Manager within our Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Hub. This position is a part‑time role at 18.5 hours.

As a Team Manager, you will ensure work is to a high quality, child centred and non‑jargon so families that we work with understand what we are writing about them and what we are saying. You will be working other Team Managers in a highly supportive team, developing staff in their use of Signs of Safety and their ability to reflect on practice to achieve good outcomes for children and young people.

You will be a qualified social worker with at least five years’ experience in statutory social work in one or more of the following areas: child in need plans, child protection assessments and plans, and children in the care of the local authority. You will have experience of working in partnership – with children, their family and wider networks, and professional colleagues across education, health, police and the voluntary sector.

It is important that you have excellent written skills, and are proficient in using IT. We will provide you with devices and equipment that promotes flexibility in how you work, and training in LCS, our electronic child record system.

Safeguarding intervention is challenging, and we want to make sure our staff feel safe in their practice. In our 2024 Health Check, 100% of colleagues told us that they felt their line manager cared about their welfare. We encourage peer support from within your team. You will have access to regular group supervision. Senior managers are visible and accessible, so you know you are never alone in the work that you do.

We have a range of resources and support in place to ensure our staff have a healthy work life balance. These include flexible and agile working arrangements, generous annual leave entitlement and access to fantastic money saving offers across the region. We engage our staff in a range of clinical support opportunities including counselling and Schwartz rounds to combat the emotional strains of the day job.

We are committed to continuing to develop this offer and responding to the needs of our teams.

The 2024 Health Check reported that 95% of colleagues feel that North Tyneside promotes a learning culture. We are committed to supporting the development opportunities of our teams and have an extensive in‑house training offer as well as access to regional HEI post qualification courses and national learning opportunities. The practice model used in North Tyneside is Signs of Safety, and you will be supported in developing and using this approach.

You will receive regular high quality reflective supervision that focuses on case management as well as your own professional development.

We listen to our colleagues and promote various opportunities for leaders to hear your voice. These include regular Children’s Services Health Check and consultation opportunities on the things that matter to you and your work.

Our staff tell us they are happy working with us. 100% of staff in our recent staff Health Check told us they make a significant contribution to achieving positive outcomes for children and families. 94% of our staff told us they would recommend working for North Tyneside Children’s Services to their friends. So isn’t it time you had a look!

Please be advised that this position will require an enhanced check from the Disclosure & Barring Service.
