Position: Family Support Worker (Early Help)

About the role:

A Support for Families Support Worker can build strong relationships with all members of a family to provide comprehensive support, this includes supporting parents, and children of all ages. The role will expect you to become knowledgeable in issues that affect family life and become skilful, creative, and flexible in your offering of support. The role ultimately is designed to empower and improve family lives as identified by the family themselves.

About you:
  • You will be passionate about working in partnership with families enabling you to work together to make a positive difference to the lives of children, young people and families as a whole.
  • You will have good communication skills, both written and spoken, enabling you to form positive working relationships with all members of a family and professionals.
  • You will be value driven, working openly and honestly, and as such, be able to have uncomfortable conversations to work with families in a transparent way.
  • You will already have some experience working with different family members to affect change in some way. Ideally having a knowledge base around adverse childhood experiences and trauma.
  • You will be purpose driven, creative, flexible and have a drive to learn new knowledge and skills either by attending formal training, linking in with colleagues and professionals and other informal training.
What you will do:
  • You will use coaching and strength-based language to work directly with families to explore their goals and provide direct support in the form of direct work, signposting and/or facilitating meetings between families and professionals.
  • You will provide advice, guidance and support on an individual and group work basis, to help parents and families access opportunities that will result in ensuring their children have a ‘good start’ in life. This includes acting as an advocate for families when necessary and appropriate.
  • You will work with children and families at the Family Centre / school or in their own homes and/or community settings so that parents/carers can be engaged in activities with their children to promote learning, understanding and attachment and increase social and peer integration.
  • You will attend and contribute to supervision and performance development reviews, identify and attend training required, including being up-to-date with safeguarding policies and procedures and take action as necessary.
  • You will provide a consistent high standard of professionalism, working in a non judgemental and anti‑discriminatory way, including a good telephone and face to face manner, tact and diplomacy with a caring and positive attitude and responding to customer needs around language and culture.
  • You will be a positive, friendly and welcoming in your approach to promoting the service professionally at all times and contribute to monitoring and maintaining appropriate social media as a means of maintaining service provision.

Point 15 to Point 19 £ 30,024 to £32,061 per annum £15.56 to £16.61 per hour
