Why join the Assessment Intervention Team as a Children’s Social Worker?The Assessment and Intervention Team (AIT) is a specialist Social Work service responsible for undertaking proportionate and analytical assessments with children and families where there are emerging or identified safeguarding concerns. The team also leads on initial child protection enquiries, ensuring that risk is robustly assessed and that timely, defensible decisions are made in line with statutory expectations.
Our practice is underpinned by a clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We work collaboratively with families, building on strengths and resilience to support positive change, while remaining professionally curious and maintaining a clear focus on risk. Where it is safe to do so, we prioritise supporting children to remain within their family networks;
however, we are equally prepared to take decisive action where necessary to secure children’s immediate and long‑term safety.
AIT promotes a reflective and supportive team culture. We recognise the emotional demands of social work practice and actively prioritise staff wellbeing. The team benefits from regular supervision, reflective discussions, and a strong peer support network, enabling practitioners to safely explore complex cases and maintain effective decision‑making. Informal support is equally valued, creating space for staff to debrief and sustain resilience in their roles.
We foster a positive and inclusive team environment, taking opportunities to recognise and celebrate both professional and personal milestones. The team is also actively engaged in community initiatives and fundraising, reflecting our wider commitment to the communities we serve.
We are committed to creating a working environment where practitioners feel valued, supported, and empowered to deliver high‑quality practice and achieve meaningful outcomes for children and families.
