Summary

This is a 3- to 4-month contract role with a local authority aimed at enhancing the attendance, engagement, attainment, and wellbeing of children and young people. The Attendance Support Officer is instrumental in promoting regular school attendance by collaborating with schools, families, and partner agencies to identify and mitigate barriers to education. This role involves supporting vulnerable pupils, implementing intervention strategies, conducting home visits, and ensuring adherence to attendance legislation.

Additionally, the position contributes to safeguarding children and fostering positive educational outcomes within the local authority.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with schools, education settings, parents, carers, and Education Social Workers to address attendance issues and determine suitable interventions.
  • Conduct home visits to ascertain reasons for absence and assist pupils in returning to and maintaining regular attendance.
  • Develop positive relationships with pupils, serving as a mentor and coach to help overcome attendance and engagement barriers.
  • Establish constructive partnerships with parents and carers, offering guidance and support to promote positive attendance habits.
Essential Experience
  • Experience in supporting children, young people, or families within education, youth work, social care, or community-based environments.
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships with vulnerable individuals and support improvements in behavior or attendance.
Essential Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics.
  • Level 4 qualification in a relevant field such as Youth and Community Work, Health and Social Care, Education, Family Support, or equivalent experience.
Additional Information
  • Working hours:

    37 hours per week.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a car.
  • Enhanced DBS check required.
