Family Support Worker – HMP Berwyn (18.5 Hours)

Barnardo’s is seeking a Family Support Worker to support the delivery of family services at HMP Berwyn.

About the Role
  • Welcome and support families attending prison visits.
  • Provide emotional support, information and guidance to children and families.
  • Support the delivery of visits, Family Days, enrichment activities, homework clubs and children’s activities.
  • Work closely with the Visitors’ Centre, prison staff and partner agencies.
  • Help create a safe, welcoming and child-focused environment.
  • Support the planning and delivery of Family Days and family engagement events.
  • Ensure records, risk assessments and service information are completed in line with Barnardo’s policies and procedures.
  • Maintain safe and engaging play resources and activities for children.
About You
  • Has experience of supporting children, young people, families or vulnerable individuals.
  • Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Is organised, compassionate and resilient.
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
  • Can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Shares Barnardo’s commitment to improving outcomes for children and families.
  • Welsh language skills are desirable.
Working Pattern

This is an 18.5-hour post working every other weekend.

Week 1 – Working Weekend
  • Saturday: 9.15 hours
  • Sunday: 9.15 hours
  • Total: 18.5 hours
Week 2 – Weekday Working
  • Monday: 6 hours
  • Wednesday: 6 hours
  • Thursday: 6.5 hours *
  • Total: 18.5 hours

* Thursday may alternate with Friday to support Family Day delivery.
