In addition, you support new material specifications for approval of BASF engineering plastics materials for use in new and/or existing applications. You will help coordinate test programmes to establish approval packages and determine capability. You will identify opportunities for leveraging OEM approvals and relationships to improve Performance Materials business position. You will work with local, global, and cross‑functional teams to drive approval projects and to anticipate and resolve obstacles and challenges.

You will support field inquiries from Sales, Marketing, Product Management and Quality regarding material specifications and approvals. You will interface with manufacturing to ensure that specifications are understood and to provide support with capability issues.

You will maintain records and ensure the accuracy of BASF databases describing our approvals to automotive specifications. You will also represent BASF at external technical activities such as ASTM, ISO and AIAG.

  • Your superior communication skills and demonstrated track record of building credibility with internal and external partners will serve you well as you meet directly and negotiate with OEM Materials Engineers and Managers regarding approval of new materials, site changes and raw material changes and address any issues with current specifications.
  • Demonstrating your extensive experience with materials (preferably plastics), you will represent North America on the global specifications team to drive harmonisation on product specifications based on local capability.
  • Utilising your strong technical understanding of plastic materials, test methods and the ability to apply capability principles, you will provide guidance to Operations and Project teams for new manufacturing lines and capability challenged products.
