Unit Overview
The Clinical Decision Unit is a 16-bed unit that provides services to patients who require care beyond their initial evaluation and management in the Emergency Department and are placed in observation. The Clinical Decision Unit is a highly collaborative environment space to care for patients that offers a design to support rapid care delivery and decision making for discharge home or to be transitioned into inpatient setting.
Working collaboratively with an assigned provider team, this fast‑paced unit focuses on excellence in care delivery and a length of stay of less than 24 hours. The unit has cardiac monitoring capabilities and accepts a wide range of diagnosis. Frequently overflow general medical patients from the Emergency Department are moved to the CDU to decompress the Emergency Department. The ED leadership team provides oversight for the CDU.
Employees will be cross‑trained in the ED and CDU and must successfully complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, Critical Care Nursing Course, and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) during orientation.
