Position OverviewHenry Ford Health System is seeking a full‑time Advanced Practice Provider (PA/NP) to join the Orthopedic Surgery team in Wyandotte. This role offers a balanced mix of autonomous ambulatory practice with a strong procedural focus and first‑assist responsibilities in the OR two days per week, supporting continuity of care and operational efficiency. The APP will independently evaluate and treat patients ages 8 and older, interpret imaging, perform splinting/casting, order DME, and coordinate care within the orthopedic department across both ambulatory and inpatient settings.
New graduates with licensure are welcome to apply, with preference given to candidates with prior ER, urgent care, or orthopedic experience. Opportunities for additional shifts at other locations and participation in a rotating weekend coverage schedule will be discussed during the interview process.
Full‑time, days. Approx. 8 a‑4 p, Monday – Friday with the APP having their own clinic and first assisting in the OR.
Weekend RequirementYes, on rotation among the other 5 APPs, once every 6 weeks.

The Surgical PA will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The PA will assess, diagnose, treat, educate, consult, and coordinate care as a first‑line provider to patients and families. Responsibilities include inpatient and/or outpatient medical care, taking history, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting tests, making diagnoses, instituting appropriate treatment programs, and working with staff physicians, nurses, and other team members to ensure safe and efficient outcomes.
Specific procedures are credentialed individually based on training and experience. First or second assist in surgical cases.
Bachelor's Degree or completion of an AMA‑approved Physician Assistant program.
Licensure and Certification- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan.
- National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- DEA/CSL required through credentialing.
- DEA – NPs do not have controlled substance licenses, only PAs.
- NP – Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
- PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC‑PA).
- NP – Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan.
- PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- New graduates with licensure are welcome to apply.
- Preference given to candidates with 1‑2 years of experience in orthopedics, emergency medicine, or urgent care.
- Prior experience with procedure‑based care preferred.
- Experience assisting in the OR or first‑assist experience preferred, not required.
- EPIC preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment.
