- Dictate settings for all operational processes and equipment such as levels, flows, pressures, temperature and all other aspects related to the operation of the process.
- Responsible for the controlled operations of the major plant process.
- Responsible for solving operational problems within assigned capabilities.
- Responsible for safety and training of subordinates and the economical operation of the shifts.
- Assist Water Plant Supervisor IV in performing various tasks and special assignments relating to the job.
- Assume responsibilities of direct supervisor as required.
- Responsible for ordering and handling various chemicals used in the plant.
- Coordinate response to emergency situations within set procedures.
- Make plant process adjustments and other operational changes as necessary.
- Ensure correct and thorough completion of all logs and records in assigned area.
- Manage operations and maintenance personnel to efficiently operate a water treatment facility.
- Strong administrative, planning and management capabilities.
- Maintain an in‑depth knowledge of water treatment processes, compliance requirements, operations and maintenance requirements, and reporting/record‑keeping requirements; troubleshoot water treatment equipment and processes and perform water tests and interpret results.
- Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with supervisors, peers and subordinates.
- Maintain basic computer skills, and electrical and mechanical knowledge.
- Five years of experience in water treatment. (Credit given for college semesters.)
- Texas Commission (or predecessor agency) Class B Water Operator’s Certificate of Competency required.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
The duties and responsibilities are generally performed in a water treatment environment. The position involves sitting (up to 6 hours per day), frequent standing, frequent walking, light to heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs.), light carrying, frequent bending and reaching, keyboarding, and telephone operation. It often requires an irregular work schedule and overtime hours. Specific physical conditions require frequent work with chemicals, tools, machinery, moving mechanical parts, etc.
The duties and responsibilities are performed both indoors and outdoors. Moderate to heavy exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, biological hazards, rain, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials and chemicals, machinery, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, and water hazards are common. Performs and reviews work at locations that involve hazardous environments requiring the physical ability to wear and work using personal protective equipment (PPE) that meet or exceed guidelines such as established by OSHA which may result in some physical discomfort.
The position may require work in confined spaces, on ladders and rooftops, and in adverse weather conditions with appropriate training.
