SEND Unit Teacher – Full-time, long-term temporary and ongoing from June 2026

This SEND Unit Teacher role is based within a supportive primary school setting that places inclusion, care, and individual development at the heart of its work. The school promotes a nurturing environment where pupils with additional needs are supported to make steady progress, develop confidence, and engage positively with learning through well-planned provision and strong teamwork.

Duties as SEND Unit Teacher:
  • Plan and deliver tailored teaching and learning for pupils in a Year 2/3 SEND unit
  • Adapt the curriculum to meet a range of special educational needs, including communication, cognition, and social development
  • Create a safe, structured, and nurturing classroom environment that supports emotional well-being
  • Assess, track, and report on pupil progress, using strategies appropriate to individual needs
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, SENCOs, and external professionals to support pupils effectively
  • Implement and review individual education plans and contribute to annual reviews where required
  • Maintain clear and consistent behaviour support strategies in line with school policies
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote positive relationships with pupils and families
Ideal SEND Unit Teacher:
  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Has experience teaching pupils with SEND, ideally within a primary or specialist setting
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of inclusive practice and differentiated teaching strategies
  • Is patient, resilient, and committed to supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies
  • Is reflective, organised, and keen to contribute to a long-term teaching role as a SEND Unit Teacher
