JOB TITLE: Branding Iron Sports Editor

JOB PURPOSE: To provide edited copy through stories and copy from writers and reports for publication in the newspaper and online.

• Meet with online editor daily for consultation and assignment.
• In consultation with online editor assign stories to writers.
• Work with visual editor to assign photographers and videographers to cover events.
• Edit copy for the sports sections.
• Generate story ideas for the sports section.
• Supervise work of sports writers.
• Write four stories each week.
• Conduct meeting with writers and reporters when necessary for progress reports, story ideas, work evaluation.
• Maintain regular office hours of not less than 15 hours a week.
• Attend weekly editorial meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Full-time student
• Minimum 2.5 GPA
• Newspaper experience, including writing news stories.
• Must be available to start work Aug. 18, 2025
• Must be available for publication deadlines on Sundays and Wednesday nights.
• Must be available Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for training.

• Some supervisory experience.
• Basic knowledge of what goes into a good newspaper story, as well as other newspaper editorial content.
• Some prior newspaper experience.
• Knowledge of AP style or willingness to learn.
