Job Overview
Chief Inspector at Wyoming Refining Company, a growth-oriented energy company. Reporting to the Project Engineer Manager, you will manage a staff of inspectors to ensure the mechanical integrity of refinery fixed equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain inspection records for all refinery assets in the Inspection Data Management System (IDMS).
- Identify value‑adding opportunities and drive continuous improvements.
- Inspect and recommend plans for repair and replacement of refinery equipment.
- Plan and execute own work independently while collaborating with a supervisor.
- Identify and implement solutions to complex problems effectively and efficiently.
- Assist in evaluation and selection of refinery equipment and materials.
- Assist in preparation and maintenance of refinery engineering standards and specifications.
- Manage risk‑based inspection studies, evaluations, and recommendations.
- Calculate remaining life of selected equipment in accordance with ASME and API codes and perform informal Fitness for Service evaluations.
- Develop and maintain the Mechanical Integrity and QA/QC policies.
- Develop or approve plant NDE procedures and manage the department budget.
- Inspect equipment and evaluate data to ensure safe continued operation.
- Document results of inspections, tests, alterations, and repairs in equipment history files or IDMS.
- Prepare NDE and inspection plans for equipment based on specific damage mechanisms.
- Issue detailed repair instructions and approve welding procedures.
- Conduct vendor surveillance and audits for off‑site equipment construction.
- Develop welding procedures for plant maintenance personnel.
- Prepare inspection work lists for plant turnarounds with detailed justifications.
- Manage completion of HAZOP action items and inspection follow‑up items.
- Promote continuous learning and share technical expertise across the organization.
- Manage staff of plant inspectors for various projects and contractual inspectors.
- Communicate clear, accurate information orally and in writing.
- Develop, train, and set expectations for direct reports.
- Identify and remove barriers to performance and guide workforce loading.
- Supply metrics and key performance indicators on inspection department progress.
- Actively participate in plant safety programs and promote safety leading by example.
- Complete monthly safety audits and assist with root‑cause failure analysis.
- Contribute to HAZOP, PHA, and MOC reviews and complete PSSR’s.
- Assist with incident investigations as needed.
- Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States without visa sponsorship.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- B.S. Engineering Degree or minimum 15 years of inspection experience in lieu of degree.
- Minimum 10 years refinery experience preferred.
- API-510 Pressure Vessel Inspector Certification required.
- API-570 Piping Inspector Certification required.
- API-653 Above Ground Storage Tank Inspector Certification preferred.
- API-580 Risk Based Inspection Certification preferred.
- API-571 Damage Mechanisms Affecting Fixed Equipment in the Refining Industry Certification preferred.
- API-588 Recommended Practice for Source Inspection and Quality Surveillance Certification preferred.
- ASME and API codes knowledge; CWI and NDT Level II certifications preferred.
- Strong computer skills for reports and spreadsheets.
- Must climb and work at elevations exceeding 150 ft with appropriate safety equipment.
- Must work in confined spaces and sometimes in supplied breathing air.
- Strong teamwork environment with all refinery departments.
- Frequently requires exceeding 40 hours per week.
- Proper PPE required.
- Weekend duty assignments and after hours call‑outs periodically required.
- Potential participation in Incident Command Structure.
