Responsibilities include performing MRI procedures with independent judgement in a safe environment, including monitoring and ensuring patient and staff safety in the presence of a strong magnetic field. The MRI technologist performs injections and scans and is responsible for the designated area.

Qualifications
  • Satisfactory completion of a formal radiographic technology program in an AMA-approved school and successful completion of ARRT board registry.
  • Preferably a member of ASRT or MSRT or both.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in MRI or cross-training for ARRT registered individuals.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Maintain ARRT certification.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all protocols and parameters.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of injection rates for each scan protocol.
  • Understand the effects of transfer, reformats, image display, and archiving.
  • Screen patients and other individuals entering the scan room.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of PACS and RIS systems.
  • Recognize and apply the appropriate prep for each exam performed.
  • Cite the scan parameter of each anatomical study performed.
  • Assemble appropriate sterile and non-sterile equipment for each procedure.
  • Assist radiology nurse in sedation procedures and follow the listed prep for specific exams.
  • Proficient at starting PVADs when necessary.
  • Apply the appropriate coil for the procedure performed.
  • Understand the difference between non-ferrous and ferrous equipment.
  • Practice safety precautions when handling ferrous equipment around the MRI unit.
  • Participate in rotating on-call duties in the department.
