General Summary
The Cytotechnologist is responsible for the preparation, staining and microscopic evaluation of prepared smears and body fluids, as well as assisting in the collection and preparation of fine needle aspirates.

Skills And Abilities
- Certified in cytotechnology (CT) by a certification agency approved by HHS, such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or graduate from a school of cytotechnology accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or another organization approved by Health and Human Services (HHS).
- Must be able to work required hours.
- Must be able to operate technical equipment in department.
- Must have good visual acuity and depth perception.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with co-workers and supervisors.
- Demonstrates the ability to work well with others in a team environment, as well as working well independently.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Verifies that the proper specimen is being analyzed for the proper patient, for the indicated tests, by following the established department procedures and policies.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the most commonly used functions of the laboratory information system (LIS) and is able to enter test results accurately in the LIS for each case examined or reviewed.
- Organizes work so that procedures are performed within established turnaround times without sacrificing the quality of work performed.
- Notifies Anatomic Pathology Supervisor or Pathologist when QC problem exists.
- Accurately maintains workload records for each 24 hour period, documenting the total number of slides examined or reviewed, and the number of hours spent screening.
- Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to:
Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
This is a part-time role with variable shifts, including days. The FTE status is 0, and there are no on-call or weekend requirements.
