With one in 36 children diagnosed with autism, this entry‑level job is in high demand. As a Behavior Technician at Total Spectrum, you’ll have the exciting role of helping children with autism learn, grow, and build communication, socialization, and self‑help skills through a form of play‑based therapy known as applied behavior analysis (ABA).
Working as a Behavior Technician requires certain characteristics we look for:
- A genuine desire to help children with autism and their families reach their goals.
- A steady supply of compassion, empathy, enthusiasm, kindness, goodwill, and reliability.
- A willingness to learn about autism, learning differences, and ABA.
- Provide ABA therapy to children, teens, and young adults with autism and special needs in their homes, schools, or one of our centers.
- Engage with clients to develop communication, socialization, and self‑help skills.
- Collaborate with supervisors and other staff to implement treatment plans.
- Perform physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 35 pounds as needed for client assignments.
- Full‑time employees can earn up to 15 days of paid time off (PTO) after 90 days of employment.
- Part‑time employees are eligible for sick leave.
- Potential to be promoted in as little as three months after mastering ABA fundamentals.
- High school diploma.
- Reliable transportation; valid driver’s license and personal vehicle preferred.
- Availability to work Monday‑Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., with a primary need typically from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Weekend availability is a bonus.
- Minimum age requirement of 18 on the first day of employment.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
- Consistency in a weekly schedule during mornings, afternoons, and/or evenings.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Bi‑lingual (English/Spanish) fluency is a plus.
- Educational background in psychology, education, special education, childcare, behavioral health, health science, or a related field is a plus.
- Experience working with children in roles such as babysitter, nanny, tutor, teacher, coach, or camp counselor is a plus.
- Interest in training for a career in behavior analysis, behavioral health, teaching, occupational therapy, speech‑language pathology, counseling, mental health, or parenting.
