Powertrain Design EngineerJoin the Powertrain Engine Design Team where you will lead the design and release of engine components and systems from concept through production while meeting program milestones.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Perform all design activities related to component function with emphasis on quality, reliability, timely delivery, cost, and manufacturability.
- Establish a project development schedule from concept to production implementation in line with overall business requirements.
- Determine ideal component manufacturing method to ensure design, performance, and cost conformance.
- Create and release 3D models, detailed drawings, perform analyses to support the above and complete their release through PTC Windchill.
- Pre‑prepare preliminary sketches and schematic diagrams and presentations to aid in understanding and solution of engineering problems.
- Lead and participate in design reviews to ensure adequate input and involvement from all stakeholder groups.
- Analyze supplier/manufacturing, test and field problems and recommend possible solutions.
- Coordinate engineering efforts at supplier locations before, during and after a production launch to ensure specification accuracy and accountability and co‑engineer powertrain components.
- Coordinate work across multiple global cross‑functional product teams within (FEA, Supplier Quality) and outside (external design firms) of the Polaris organization.
- On‑site support of supplier runs at rates (RARs).
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or equivalent.
- 3–6 years minimum related design experience in an engine design environment.
- Experience with 3‑D CAD modeling package;
Creo preferred. - Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in Powertrain Design Categories such as Engine Architecture, Power Cylinder, Cranktrain, Cylinder Head, Crankcases, Valve train, Intake and Exhaust Systems, Fuel Systems, Lubrication System, Starting and Charging Systems, Transmissions and Gears.
- Experience with creation of specifications for system requirements and performance.
- Experience in design related processes such as GD&T, FMEA, DVP&R, DRBFM, dimensional tolerance stack‑ups.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem‑solving and root cause analysis skills.
- High level of people skills; able to work in a global team environment.
- Ability to work with domestic and international technology partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
The starting pay range for Minnesota is $78,000 to $103,000 per year. Individual salaries are determined through a wide variety of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography.
