Distinguishing FeaturesThis is the working level class in the GIS Analyst sub‑series. An employee in this class performs advanced spatial analysis; custom designs software applications; and analyzes and evaluates equipment and software necessary for GIS development programs. It differs from GIS Analyst 1 (entry level) and GIS Analyst 3 (advanced working level or supervisory).
Competencies (KSA's)- Develop custom GIS applications, create decision‑making tools for complex issues, perform research, write, test, and deploy code.
- Create specialized data sets, reports, maps, and graphics; analyze data; acquire data from agencies; define output parameters; perform spatial analysis.
- Integrate GIS into existing agency or departmental applications; examine business processes; identify requirements; write source code; diagnose system problems.
- Maintain GIS applications, hardware, and software; evaluate industry standards; monitor component performance; install upgrades.
- Provide training and technical assistance to state agency users; write instructional content; support users via email, phone, or in‑person.
