Fire Logistics Dispatcher (Seasonal) - Direct Hire Authority

These positions are located in the Fire and Aviation Management offices in the Pacific West and Intermountain Regions. The typical seasonal entry‑on‑duty period is May through November, though dates may vary due to weather, project needs, or funding. The vacancy is open to the first 100 applicants or until 12/30/2025, whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 EST on the closing day will receive consideration.

Responsibilities
  • Receive and relay information quickly, accurately, and via various dispatch systems (radios, telephones, computer networks, etc.).
  • Dispatch equipment and supplies for incidents, including fire, law enforcement, and other emergency services.
  • Maintain records related to wildland fire incidents, prescribed fire events, and daily operations.
  • Prioritize radio traffic and related communications, ensuring all transmissions are acknowledged while facilitating effective response.
  • Provide logistical support to concurrent incidents for wildland fires in accordance with agency plans, guides, and protocols.
  • Ensure relevant information is exchanged during briefings and debriefings.
  • Utilize various Computer‑Aided Dispatch (CAD) programs to track, retrieve, and record data (WildCAD, IQCS, IROC).
Conditions of Employment
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Must be 18 years of age at the time of the closing date.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication of the background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Meet the Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Participation in the Direct Deposit Electronic Funds Transfer Program is required.
  • Drug test required prior to appointment; random testing for illegal drug use is also required.
  • Must operate a government or private motor vehicle as part of official duties; a valid driver’s license is required.
  • Uniform required—must comply with National Park Service uniform standards (uniform allowance provided).
  • Work may include on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
  • May be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • Government housing may be available on a bid system and is not guaranteed.
  • Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable).
  • Positions are temporary in nature, not to exceed 1,039 hours per service year; there is no implied career ladder.
Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of the announcement (12/30/2025) unless otherwise stated.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Resume must clearly indicate the nature of duties, dates of employment (month/year), and hours worked.

Experience and Education Requirements

GS‑03: Applicants must have at least 6 months of general experience or 1 year of education above high school (or an equivalent combination).

GS‑04: Applicants must have 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience progressively responsible clerical or office work, or 2 years of education above high school, or an equivalent combination.

GS‑05: Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience at least GS‑4 level, a 4‑year bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination.

Important:
If education is used to qualify, submit a legible copy of official transcripts before entrance on duty. Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.

Physical Demands

The work involves long hours of sitting, intense concentration, and high‑stress environments during peak activity. Ability to remain calm under pressure, maintain mental concentration and accuracy, and cope with vehicle and aircraft travel is required.

Working Conditions

Primarily office setting; high radio traffic, ringing phones, and conversations create a high‑noise, high‑stress environment.

Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP) / Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)

Applicants claiming CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof of eligibility and most recent SF‑50. Qualification requirements must be met for consideration.
