Essential FunctionsThe listed functions are illustrative and not exhaustive.
- Direct Care:
Provide professional nursing services in both chronic and acute care settings and build long-term therapeutic relationships with patients. - Assessment & Action:
Assess patient health, implement care plans, and evaluate outcomes. - Clinical
Skills:
Administer medications, provide pre- and post-operative care, and review lab values. - Communication:
Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to ensure the best patient outcomes. - Leadership:
As you grow, assist in guiding LPNs and Aides on the floor (clinical leadership, not direct firing/hiring supervision). - Education:
Teach patients about health promotion and empower them to improve their own lives.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of laws, principles, practices, and techniques of professional nursing.
- Knowledge of medical records, charts, reports, and observations.
- Knowledge of nursing process and scientific process.
- Knowledge of public healthcare functions and essential services.
- Knowledge of applying medical diagnosis and treatment to patient care.
- Knowledge of scientific concepts as a basis for decision-making.
- Knowledge of physical, biological, and behavioral sciences.
- Knowledge of evaluation services and programs according to standards.
- Knowledge of work management and leadership theory and practice.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local healthcare laws.
Education
- Minimum:
Associate's Degree (typically in Nursing)
Experience
- 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with knowledge at the level of an LPN
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming
Education & Experience Substitution
- 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with knowledge at the level of an LPN; must be licensed or eligible for RN in Wyoming
Physical Working Conditions
- Lift/transfer patients and equipment (up to about 50 lbs).
- Restrain clients for treatments, climb stairs to patient homes, and drive long distances.
- Travel throughout the state and to national conferences if requested.
- Work evenings, nights, and/or weekends as required.
Notes
- FLSA:
Non-Exempt - Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing for safety-sensitive positions; drug testing if reasonable suspicion exists.
- Background check, including fingerprints, as part of the application process.
- Current Influenza Vaccination is required.

Eligibility and conditions
- New state employees and certain transfers eligible for the bonus; one year of service required in the position; failure to complete may require reimbursement from final pay.
- Internal candidates promoted may be required to remain for at least one year from promotion date.
