The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking two Access Coordinator/Senior Game Wardens based out of Casper, Wyoming and Green River, Wyoming.
Responsibilities- Coordinate with the Fish, Services, Fiscal and Wildlife Divisions as needed to maintain and enhance hunting and fishing access on Walk-In and Hunter Management Areas.
- Coordinate with Department personnel, other government agencies, private landowners, and non-government organizations to meet program objectives.
- Work closely with landowners to enroll lands into the Access Yes Program, develop contracts with enrolled landowners and program donors, and use GIS/GPS to develop maps and online content of enrolled properties.
- Conduct law enforcement duties on enrolled properties and assist with wildlife and habitat management in the region.
- Build relationships and communicate clearly with landowners to support program goals.
- Develop, administer, and monitor contracts related to hunting and fishing access with individuals, agencies, or NGOs.
- Produce program publications and online information (regional and statewide) for the Access Yes Program; contribute to fundraising, securing grants, and donor recognition.
- Enforce/check compliance with hunting, fishing, trapping, and watercraft statutes and Commission regulations, with emphasis on Access Yes properties and relevant state laws.
- Write law enforcement reports, attend court, conduct investigations, and collect intelligence; conduct watercraft safety inspections and related inspections (HIN, VIN, AIS).
- Maintain effective working relationships with Department employees and the public, including landowners, sportspersons, watercraft recreationists, conservation groups, and government/non-government organizations.
- Provide information, education and presentations on wildlife topics (hunter safety, watercraft safety, AIS, CWD, and related topics).
- Collaborate with Department wildlife biologists to facilitate wildlife management decisions.
- Humane euthanization of sick/injured wildlife; on-call response outside normal hours; conduct lethal take under permits; field dress harvested big game and donate as appropriate.
- Collect biological samples (CWD) from harvested animals.
- Manage wildlife populations toward Commission-approved objectives; assist with trapping/collecting/sampling for research and disease surveillance; use immobilization equipment when necessary.
- Conduct wildlife population inventories; collect data and assist with GPS collar deployment; support habitat improvement projects; assist with data entry and compilation for wildlife research and management.
- Other duties may include elk feed ground operations, nuisance wildlife mitigation, and professional development training.
- Represent the Department at public events and meetings; maintain equipment and Department facilities.
- Provide ATV/UTV safety training and certification to Department employees; manage regional access coordinator budget and expenditures within approved limits.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Bachelor’s degree in wildlife management, range management, biology, zoology, ichthyology, or related fields. Other bachelor's degrees may be considered with at least 20 hours of wildlife-related coursework evidenced on transcripts.
- POST certification required within the first year of employment.
- Wyoming State Law requires competitive testing for wildlife law enforcement positions.
- Background check, polygraph, psychological evaluation and fingerprinting required prior to appointment.
- Wildlife management concepts, animal biology, game and fish statutes/regulations, and enforcement of related laws.
- Wildlife and fish species identification and life history; population ecology.
- Investigation, court procedures, and prosecution of wildlife/hunting/fishing violations. Proficiency with onX Maps, GPS, and related tools.
- Developing relationships and communicating with landowners.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Biology).
