The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a motivated and dependable Highway Maintenance Specialist to join our Maintenance Team in South Pass, Wyoming. This is an exciting opportunity to make a direct impact by helping to keep Wyoming's highways safe, reliable, and ready for travel. In this important role, you'll perform a variety of roadway maintenance duties under limited supervision—ensuring a high‑quality and efficient transportation system for the public.

As a Highway Maintenance Specialist, you'll help maintain and enhance Wyoming's roadways through routine and emergency maintenance, equipment operation and upkeep, and year‑round outdoor work in varying conditions. The ideal candidate will have experience in roadway maintenance, heavy equipment operation, and a strong dedication to safety, teamwork, and public service.

• Operate and train others to operate complex machinery safely.
• Perform and oversee all maintenance tasks.
• Observe, verify and document the work of Highway Maintenance Technicians.
• Assist the manager in planning, assigning and supervising.
• Provide advice and assistance on repair procedures needed for highways, equipment and buildings.
• Serve as a technical resource.
• Communicate project information and proposed courses of action and/or subsequent consequences.
• Provide input to performance evaluations for Highway Maintenance Technicians.
• Provide work direction to a crew daily.
• Provide leadership and guidance while performing guardrail repair and snow and ice removal duties.
• Operate single and tandem axle trucks equipped with auger, aerial lift equipment, plows, wing plow, sander, and chemical systems to remove snow and ice from roadway surfaces.
• Rehabilitate roadway surfaces and traffic control devices.
• Flag traffic and set up traffic control devices.
• Attend and complete all required training to maintain certifications, perform inspections, and learn new skills.
• Utilize special computerized equipment.

• Education & Experience Substitution: 2‑4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Technician.
• Must be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within 12 months of hire.

• Education:
  
  Associate's Degree (typically in Engineering).
• Experience:
  
  0‑2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Technician.
• Must be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within 12 months of hire.

• Obtain water certifications if necessary.
• Obtain a Class A CDL within 30 days of hire.
• Obtain a certification to operate specified equipment as directed by WYDOT.
• Obtain a Certificate of completion of Defensive Driving.
• Obtain a First Aid/CPR certification.
• Obtain a Flagger certification.
• Obtain and maintain water and wastewater certifications if necessary.
