Responsible for the performance of all registration/pre-registration functions at all patient access intake points of entry. Responsible for the identification and referral of patients who might have financial difficulty. Responsible for Point of Service cash collections per corporate, facility, and departmental goals.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES- Registration of all patient types, including patient’s information such as demographics, insurance coverage and clinical information.
- Assures the accuracy of collecting patient information, identification, scanning, retrieving, and editing patient identification and other applicable parts of the patients medical record
- Effectively utilized software to determine patient’s insurance coverage and limitation and communicate to patients any financial responsibility owed.
- Identify patient’s potential financial liability for a specific service and identify patients at risk for inability to meet financial liability. Make a referral to an appropriate agency/person.
- Ability to explain overview of option available to patients/families and work closely with Benefits Advisor.
- Must have a friendly personality, be self-motivated, and the type of person who will take initiative to get the job done
- Interrelationships with patients, relatives, vendors, visitors, physicians, co-workers, and other hospital personnel.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely especially when using the overhead paging system throughout the hospital.
- Effectively explain charges and demonstrates ability to answer questions concerning patient accounts.
- Effectively explain insurance verifications and limitations
- Adheres to cash control policies and procedures
- Complies with documentation requirements of the department
- Understand and comply with all regulatory restrictions and imperatives within a registration setting such as EMTALA (emergency treatment), HIPAA (privacy), MSP (Medicare Secondary Payer), and ABN (Advanced Beneficiary Notice)
- Participate in a strong performance management by performing to the standards of the department for productivity, quality, and accuracy.

- Possesses and employs an ability to communicate with patients and families during times of emotional and physical stress

- Handles conflicts and concerns in a timely and professional manner, utilizing crisis-de-escalation skills when appropriate
- Promotes cooperative relationships among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, building rapport, participating in team problem-solving methods.
- Contributes to the maintenance of a safe working environment and the employee’s own personal safety
- Recognizes safety hazards and takes action to maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, visitors and community

SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Effective Oral and written communication skills, including AIDET
- Medical Terminology familiarity
- Working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial, Blue Cross, and HMO payers.
